NNA Trustee Maryann Tevis
Maryann Tevis is one of the Trustees of the NNA. Inspired as a child by FDR, a fellow survivor of infantile paralysis, and his call to serve our country in times of need, Maryann dedicated herself to public service, both in her public and private life. First, Ms. Tevis served as a secretary to several department heads in the Jersey City government during her 30 year career. Simultaneously, as a resident of Newport since 1987, she founded one of the first community organizations here 17 years ago. In this capacity, she organized the first Easter Egg Hunt and worked with other community leaders towards getting a park in Newport. This effort culiminated with Newport Town Square. Now retired and in good health, Maryann is delighted to be able to again serve this community as one of the leaders of the NNA, a group with multiple purposes and goals. These include working with elected and government officials to bring much needed public services to Newport, as well as providing interesting and exciting cultural and social events. Maryann is particularly concerned about pedestrian safety in Newport as well as providing additional street parking for tenants.

Sounds like Maryann is a remarkable person to overcome the disease in her childhood and then to have such a long career in government.
Maryann is to be admired for her public and community service. It's been a pleasure working with her on neighborhood issues.
